After months of planning and practice, our brand new Classical Conversations community held our first public event last Tuesday: a celebration of Constitution Day (September 17). As a director of a new CC community, I’d wanted to do something to gain exposure for CC, so celebrating our Constitution with members of our local community seemed like the perfect way to do it. The kids spent the first 4 weeks of assembly time practicing their parts and the songs: since Constitution Day happens so early in the school year, we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare. In spite of the time crunch, the kids did a fantastic job and we were very pleased with the turnout.

I wrote about the preparations here, including lots of links to resources that I created to share. The crowning touch was the amazing cake that one of our parents made for the reception afterwards. You can read all about her adventures in creating it here.

All in all, it was  a great way to start our school year. The kids have their first public event under their belt and were able to experience the satisfaction of having done their jobs well. It was also a great way for us parents to band together and learn each other’s strengths and areas of expertise, especially under pressure. We’re all looking forward to doing it again!

Right, Windy?
