When she and her family visited us this past week, my dear friend MJ gave me this beautiful, handcrafted bag from Mombasa. As I was preparing to use it, I found a small piece of paper tucked in a zippered pouch that contained the following words:

What does it mean to TRUST in God? We are told to “trust in God with all our heart; and lean not on our own understanding. In all our ways, we are to accept the truths about God, recognize that He is God, and He will direct our paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Well, we all know that there is nothing better than aspiring to have a heart fully dedicated to God. He knows what we need even before we ask and He can handle our cares better than we can. So, leave your worries to God. Let Him direct you and your paths. Realize, identify, and be aware of God in all your ways and you will see that He won’t fail to deliver on any of His promises.

I thought it was an especially poignant reminder tonight, on the eve of our Mitchell County Classical Conversations community’s first day together. CC calls their community leaders “directors” and so this line in particular jumped out at me: “Let Him direct you and your paths.” Amen! If all of us continue to keep our eyes on the one who is truly directing our paths, there is no way we can fail.

I’m definitely feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness tonight but above all, I just feel blessed to be a part of this.
